To truly experience what it means to be Mexican, or Yucatecan, you have to live here and celebrate with the locals the way they have done for years and years. This was the first time that we ventured into the Plaza Grande for Independencia…me, having lived here for 2 years and Bryce only a few months…this is what we captured…
On September 3rd and 4th, 2011, a consortium of organizations (including Evolucion, Planned Pethood and the City of Merida) held a mini sterilization clinic for Merida residents’ pets. Offered as a free service, the organizers hope to educate the population about the health and unnecessary over-population of animals here in the Yucatan. A big thank you goes out to all the volunteers and organizers of this successful campaign!
On May 30th and 31st, Hennessy’s Irish Pub played host to the Spring Fundraiser for Sanctuary Evolucion. Guests had the opportunity to bid on numerous silent auction items, as well sitting down to enjoy some great food and great wine pairings. The following video is a highlight reel of the event. Tuesday April 12, 2011, was the historical launch of The Yucatan Times Newspaper. The first ever English Language newspaper in the Yucatan was lauded by state officials for building an important bridge between the international community and the local Yucatecans. Foreigners that seek out information on issues and goings on, in the Yucatan, can now pick up a copy from several news stands in the city for only $10 pesos! Sunday, March 20, 2011, was the 2nd Annual Brazos Abiertos Merida Showcase of Homes. This A.C. organization raises funds through events like this to support their work fighting HIV/AIDS in the Yucatan. Several homeowners opened their doors to the charity for guests from all over to see some amazing homes. After the tour, guests were invited to meet at Hennessy’s Irish Pub to celebrate another successful event. Please enjoy this highlight reel…
